Q Washing tips

A

  • Wash your nappies a few times prior to use to increase the absorbency of the towelling. Tots Bots Bamboozles need 10 washes to get them to full absorbency but if you really can't wait, you can use them after a couple of washes.
  • No need to soak your nappies prior to washing. Modern powders will get them clean. To minimise chemical residues we recommend Ecover, Simply or Bio D laundry detergents.
  • A couple of drops of tea tree oil on a piece of cotton wool or flannel in the bottom of your nappy bucket if dry pailing, or a few drops in the water if wet-pailing, will help to keep the bucket smelling fresher. The anti-viral and anti-bacterial properties of tea tree oil may also help reassure you that nothing nasty is lurking in there (although this is not essential, and if you use nappy cleanser such as Onelife Pure or Bio D Nappy Fresh in your wash the nappies will be hygienically clean every time). Please note that tea tree oil occasionally discolours nappies, particularly coloured nappies.
  • Wash your nappies/covers at 40 or 60 (depending on the wash care label) in non-biological laundry detergent. Use a laundry mesh in your nappy bucket for added convenience.
  • Don't use fabric softeners as this leaves a residue and decreases the absorbency of the towelling.
  • Don't use bleach or other harsh stain removers, as they will shorten the lifespan of your nappies and will void your guarantee.
  • You can tumble dry the nappies on a cool setting if needed but we recommend line drying wherever possible.
  • Hard water can make nappies go hard. We recommend bamboo or synthetic fibres if the water in your area is particularly hard. Although a good glug of vinegar in the fabric softener compartment with each nappy wash should help to prevent nappies from going hard.
