Advice

  • Nappy terminology explained!

Q What are all of these things?

A The NAPPY is the absorbent part, and is either SHAPED or FLAT for you to fold as appropriate.

The WRAP (or COVER) is the waterproof (or breathable and absorbent if made of FLEECE) layer which prevents clothes from getting wet.

Inside the nappy, most people use a LINER, which catches the poo but lets the urine pass through to the nappy. Liners are either disposable or flushable and re-usable. These are not essential but do make using nappies easier. There is evidence to suggest that silk liners can help to improve, or even to prevent, nappy rash.

BOOSTERS (or ABSORBENT LINER) are needed inside nappies for particularly heavy wetters or just for over-night. Some boosters are made of fleece, so in effect have a flushable, re-usable liner built-in.
